HOOSIC RIVER REVIVAL SEEKS ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATOR 

Hoosic River Revival (HRR) is a self-funded nonprofit based in North Adams, MA pursuing a mission to improve the city’s outdated flood management system, improve the health of the Hoosic River ecosystem, and restore public access to the river. HRR is governed by a volunteer board of directors (BOD) who set policy and manage the nonprofit’s projects and initiatives.

We seek an Administrative Coordinator to help meet the growing scope of projects and initiatives related to our mission. HRR is at a critical juncture in its history, with multiple new initiatives coming online while we also steward, in close collaboration with the City of North Adams, the US Army Corps of Engineers study of the flood chutes.

The Administrative Coordinator will be responsible for successfully performing the administrative and operational tasks needed to support HRR’s all-volunteer board. To fill this challenging and rewarding role, HRR seeks a well-organized, proactive, and self-motivated individual, who can work with minimum supervision and who has experience executing public programs and/or working with nonprofits.

The Administrative Coordinator (AC) will: 

  • Manage communications for the organization and the BOD;

  • Organize and facilitate HRR projects and initiatives such as community outreach and engagement, BOD and committee meetings, fund raising events, and others; and

  • Provide other administrative services for HRR as assigned by the relevant HRR committees responsible for various projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree or equivalent life experience;

  • Ability to work independently with oversight by BOD members;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholder groups in oral and written media;

  • Proficiency with productivity tools and social media;

  • Availability on weekends and evenings when many HRR events are scheduled; and 

  • Ability to complete tasks in a changing environment due to weather and other factors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations.

  • Knowledge of urban /water environmental issues

Illustrative Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain HRR’s Google calendar of internal and external meetings and events;

  • Prepare and distribute board materials, attend HRR BOD and committee meetings and draft minutes for BOD review;

  • Manage HRR’s website, use social media to publicize HRR events,and manage HRR’s social media strategy and postings;

  • Provide organizational, administrative, and logistical support for HRR events and activities including activities such as negotiating with and obtaining bids from vendors and coordinating with diverse stakeholders including governments, private sector organizations, individuals, and other non-profit organizations;

  • Create and post and/or distribute media alerts/postings, flyers, and notices for special events;

  • Provide “on the ground” support for HRR events, including organizing transport and set-up;

  • Create and manage mailing lists including lists of donors and potential donors, members, media contacts, HRR affiliated groups,  and volunteers;

  • Coordinate volunteer participation in HRR events;

  • Field media inquiries, draft media releases, and manage distribution after BOD approval;

  • Draft periodic e-newsletters for review; manage distribution;

  • Monitor and coordinate responses to inquiries received through HRR’s online link: info@HRR; and

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Compensation and Terms

This is a part-time position for an independent contractor to be paid for a minimum of 40 hours per month for an initial term of 1 year subject to a 90 day probationary period. Payment will occur on a monthly basis, and no benefits are provided.

The hourly rate of pay will be in the range of $25/hour to $45/hour; pay rate will be commensurate with the applicant’s demonstrated skills and ability to meet the needs of HRR.
